Since we’re lucky enough to receive so much snow in Ontario, why not get outside and enjoy it?
The Basics of Cross Country Skiing
Cross-country skiing is a sport that the whole family can enjoy. The difference between cross-country and downhill skiing is that while you still propel yourself with poles across the snow on skis, you aren’t starting at the top of the hill and heading straight down. Instead, you glide across flat terrain. It can be quite the workout, as you’re using both your upper and lower body to move forward!
Cross-Country Skiing in Caledon East
Our community offers many places in which to explore the outdoors:
- Country Nest Bed & Breakfast offers the perfect setting for cross-country skiing. Located on 2 ½ acres in the hills of Caledon, you can ski the vast area here and then come back to the B&B and roast marshmallows in the fire pit. What a great way to celebrate the season.
- The Town of Caledon has an expansive trail system which includes the Bruce Trail, the Trans-Canada Trail Way and the Humber Valley Heritage Trail. Cross-country skiing along the trails offers a set route and measured distance so you can set reasonable and accomplishable goals.
- Forks of the Credit Provincial Park is a majestic place to ski and is so easy to get to. Take Charleston Sideroad, then go south on McLaren Road!
Get out your poles and skis. It’s time to enjoy all that Caledon East has to offer.
